Well, over the weekend we went to Las Vegas for my sisters wedding. It was a really great trip and the wedding was wonderful.
However, over the weekend the power supply on my linux computer failed which caused the hard drive to fail. So, yeah, that pretty much just stinks. I haven’t been able to retrieve anything off it yet, but hopefully I will at some point.
The good thing for me is that I pretty much had everything backed up. Not everything, but most stuff. I have all my programming stuff on other servers and all my web stuff on other servers. I have all our digital pictures on another server, on my other desktop, and on a backup external harddrive. I know I have some of my config files backed up somewhere, probably on that backup external harddrive. I just need to find them. The only important thing I don’t think I have backed up (although…now that I think about it…I may actually have it on my backup external harddrive) are some information files. Files I keep important info that I just want to make sure I don’t forget. If I lose them, it’s not the end of the world.
The reason I’m writing this is because I have time to. Since my computer is down I haven’t been able to install a new os yet because downloading the Fedora Core cd’s is taking forever. I think I’m going to switch to Fedora from Debian just because fedora seems to be a bit more user friendly and I don’t want to have to keep up with all the linux ins and outs. I just want to use it and to be able to use the nice features that are easy to use (command line, vi, cvs, mysql, apache, php, ssh). The great linux automation features are simple to use with both distros, so I’m going with the more user friendly one (I hope).
Let this be a lesson to you all. MAKE BACKUPS
Good luck to me.
