Now, I don’t want to speak too soon but….it looks to me like yahoo is becoming nazi like google about ranking websites. Not that it’s a bad thing in general, but it’s not great for me. We know that if you put up a site, and do a bunch of work to get that site indexed, google will index it and send lots of traffic to it. However, if you don’t continue to do work on that site like link building, the traffic will slowly (or more likely quickly) die down. The traffic will not completely die (most likely), but if google doesn’t think the site is active, for sure they’re going to send less traffic.
It hasn’t always been the case with Yahoo, although there hasn’t really been anything good to test with because yahoo sends such a little amount of traffic as compared with google. However, my irs tax help site ws getting a significant amount of traffic from yahoo over the past month. It got as many as 700 uniques in one day. However, I haven’t done anything with the site in months and the last week has been nothing but a steady decline in traffic. So much so that I do’nt know if it’s going to get 200 uniques today.
Like I said, I don’t want to speak too soon in saying that Yahoo is going to follow google in figuring out which sites are active (like they should…it’s good for search users), but that’s what it looks like to me.
Not great news for people who automatically generate content for their sites (like me)
