Today, I got this message from Joven (my project manager) on Basecamp.

“Hi Sir John and Dan
Visayas is currently hit by Typhoon Tino (International name:Kalmaegi). Cebu is severely flooded. Iloilo has no power and under signal number 4. Paul informed me via chat.
Team in Visayas, keep safe.”
Joven is referring to this typhoon.

It’s in the same place that was affected by a strong earthquake a few weeks ago.
Usually, the strongest typhoons are rated as signal number 3. Typhoon signal number 4 is rare in the Philippines.
Not only are signal number 4 typhoons much stronger, but with a signal number 4 typhoon, you can expect total power outages and loss of internet or cell signal. There was damage to even sturdy homes and buildings. The flooding is beyond neck level, and there are people now stranded on top of their houses.
The wind speeds of a signal number 4 typhoon are equivalent to a category 3 hurricane here in the US.
This means my team in the Visayas just went through a storm that would feel like a major hurricane.

If you have VAs in the Visayas, check in on them. Make sure they’re okay.
John
