If you write really long, super specific job descriptions, it’s more likely you won’t find the “perfect” Online Filipino Specialist for your business.

Not only that, you’ll also have difficulty finding someone “good” or “great” if you’re so focused on making sure that the person you hire ticks every box in your long checklist.

To twist the knife even further, all that work you did to list down the skills your Filipino VA needs to have before you hire them is wasted work.

The goal of the job post is
1. to attract attention
2. to see if they’re paying attention

My worst-kept secret to finding great OFS is writing simple job posts.

I only list one or two skills that I really need, plus a few details about the job.

Lastly, I add the number of Apply Points they need to apply for the job post.
I say:
“When applying, use 8 Apply Points.”

That’s it. The job post can fit on a Post-it. From writing to posting, it takes me less than 5 minutes.

I know this goes against standard practice when it comes to hiring. But the “normal”, super specific way of writing job descriptions doesn’t mean it’s correct.

Here’s what happens:

  1. Writing a super long job description takes time and work. You don’t want to do it.
  2. Even if you have AI writing your job post, reading it to better fit your needs takes a lot of work. So, even before you start the hiring process, you’re already tired from the time you’ve spent doing this.
  3. You get frustrated because you’re not getting enough applicants who can tick all the boxes.
  4. People aren’t listening to all the requirements you put in so you have junky people applying.
  5. You leave your job post up longer, hoping the “right” person will eventually come. But you get more frustrated because nobody “qualified” wants to apply for the job.

Why does a simple job post work better than a long, detailed one?

  • Let’s say you have a checklist of 10 skills you want in an OFS, but you just need them to have the top 2 skills immediately. You’ll have a bigger pool of applicants if you focus on people with the top 2 skills you need now.
  • Nevermind the bigger pool…
  • Most people who have those 2 skills will also have a bunch of other skills.
  • And…
  • Requiring a specific number of apply points eliminates all the garbage applications. Don’t look at them.
  • AND…
  • Experienced OFS don’t want to work for a demanding boss. If you’re demanding 10 different skills, experienced people don’t want to work for you. They’re not going to apply to your job.
  • The OFS you hire can always be trained for the other skills you need. You don’t even need to create your own training resources—you can just use the ones we have at VAsMadeEasy.com.

Give it a try! Write a simple job post and upload it to Onlinejobs.ph now.

I’m not saying this is the only way to do this. Maybe you really love writing long detailed job posts. But it has worked for me 50+ times and sure is a lot easier than writing a long detailed post.
