You have an OFS, and they’re doing great, but you want them to do more without overwhelming them.

What’s the easiest way to get them to take on more tasks?

Ask.

I ask: “Can you do this task?”

When you ask this question, they’re likely to give one of the following answers:

1. No, I can’t do it. I don’t know how to do it. I don’t want to do it.
This is a good answer.  Not for getting things done…but for knowing they trust you. If they say no to you it means they don’t fear losing their job.

2. No, I can’t do it. But I know someone who can.
This is rare. At least you have a potential solution.

3. Maybe. I don’t know how to do it, but I want to try.
This problem can usually be solved with training. If you don’t have the time to give them training, see if we have what you need at VAsMAdeEasy.com.

4. Yes, I can do it and would be happy to do it.
That is the best possible answer.

If they give me the first “No”, I’ll often ask another question: “What tasks can you do that you think can help the business?”

The great thing about this question is that it gives me ideas of what else I can outsource that I have never thought of.

Also, because the suggestions are coming from them, I know that these are skills that they already have, and they’d be happy to take on this task for me.
