Growing up I was conditioned that more is better.
More studying = better grades.
Better grades = better college.
Better college = higher income.
So untrue.
Work more = make more
Work more = get promoted
Work more = be happier
Just as untrue.
Yet we still wear 60 hour work weeks as a badge of honor…because it’s more.
Look how busy I am. Aren’t I important!
Sometimes, it’s not even enough to do more. Each task has to have a complicated process because we believe that adding more steps creates better results.
Like, remember back then when taking care of your face, all you needed to do was wash it?
Then we also added moisturize.
Then sunscreen.
Now there are serums, spot treatments, exfoliants, and facials.
DO MORE! IT’S BETTER!
Yuck.
How about
Do less.
Make it simpler.
This is over complicated.
Relax.
For me, doing less at work starts with hiring the right help.
You don’t have to hire help from overseas. You can hire locally. You can hire your nephew. Whatever it takes. Doesn’t matter to me.
But hiring from the Philippines makes a lot of sense.
Financial sense.
Time sense.
Simplicity sense.
