I got this message from one of my OFS in Basecamp.

Don’t worry! Junelo and his family are okay. They’re in an evacuation center as a precaution. It’s been raining non-stop in the Davao region since January 30. His house is close to a river, and there’s a chance it could overflow and cause flooding.

He’s just letting me know that he’s safe, he’s not going to be able to work there, and he might need help if the situation gets worse.

To be honest, I only found out about this because Joven, my project manager, sent out a message board to check in on the team.

I asked Julia, and as of today, it’s still raining there, but not as much as the previous days. The weather is slightly better, but their local government still declared the cancellation of classes and advised businesses to work from home as much as possible to free up the roads for emergency and rescue. Thankfully, there are no casualties. The people in evacuation centers are safe and cared for.

This is one of the things I appreciate about my team. They watch out for each other, and they make sure to tell me that they’re fine.  I still worry about them.

If you have people on Mindanao (Davao specifically), you should ask how they’re doing.
