I’ll be honest and tell you I haven’t heard this in a long time now…
But…one of the meaner criticisms I have heard about hiring from the Philippines is that I take advantage of people desperate for money.
Yeah, I am saving a lot of money on labor costs. But my team members aren’t living in squalor.
I don’t advocate underpaying people.
I just don’t believe in paying so much that doesn’t leave room for your business and your OFS to grow. Yes, I often start my OFS at a bit lower than their asking salary, but as soon as they prove themselves, they get raises and start making more money.
When I share my lifestyle in my videos, podcasts, and newsletter, I know my OFS team will see them. It doesn’t feel right for me to talk about things that I enjoy knowing my team will never be able to experience something like that.
That’s the reason why we give raises and benefits.
Over the years, I have started seeing how much my life and my OFS lives have in common because they finally have the means to enjoy some of the same things.
My OFS team has gone on vacations, locally and abroad.

My OFS are buying houses, second lots, and second homes.
My OFS are buying cars.
My OFS have hobbies comparable to middle-class families in the US, like sports, motorcycles, and video games.
Watch this video. He’s a talented WordPress developer with hobbies.
Most of my OFS who have kids, their kids go to private schools. I don’t even send my kids to private school!
So when I say stuff like, “You’re making a difference when you hire an OFS,” this is what I mean. They’re not just living a good life compared to most people in the Philippines. They’re living what we imagine a good life is, which is better than what most people experience.
Don’t be ashamed to hire an OFS because you want to save money. That job you’re giving them is giving your OFS a great life.
And it will improve your quality of life too.
John
