Every time I get a new story from an Online Filipino Specialist, it amazes me how different and how similar the stories are.
With Hershe’s story, I thought I knew enough about sari-sari stores because I featured it in a previous newsletter. I thought I knew what life in a far-flung town is like because my OFS share their experiences, and my son talks about his experiences in our weekly phone calls.
Her story reminded me of our newsletter about banking in the Philippines and how OFS get their salary.
I learned from my OFS that some rural banks in really remote areas do not support SWIFT transfers and what possible alternatives they have to get bank accounts that can receive SWIFT.
We didn’t talk about how they get that money from their bank accounts if they don’t have banks and ATMs near them. It turns out that Hershe’s family business fills that role in their community.
Like most of the OFS stories featured here, this one is about family.
