Here are pages of major search engines for submitting your website or url. Often you can find these pages by searching “submit site to yahoo (or altavista, or google, or whatever) or by searching add url or addurl.

Here’s a list of the pages I found. No guarantees they’ll be here permanently.

http://submitit.bcentral.com/msnsubmit.htm
http://www.google.com/addurl.html
http://www.dmoz.org

Be sure to submit to dmoz. They’re a huge provider of search results.

These seem to be the major search engines you need to add your site to. Just put in your url into their form and hope it works. They all say “we make no guarantees, we don’t really care for you, It’l probably take like 6 years before you’re included, …”. It’s still worth it to submit.

Just don’t be a jerk about it. Submitting often won’t help. Once they’ve got you in their directory you don’t need to submit any more, they already know you exist.

Here are some smaller ones. While they don’t get much traffic, there still is some. Plus, if you can be one of a few websites in a small search engine, chances of you coming up are much greater.

One more thing…
There are TONS of companies out there who want you to pay to be included in their search engines. This is a bunch of BS. They charge anywhere from $25 to $299 for inclusion into their small, iddy biddy search engines. This is absolutely ridiculous. The fact is that 99% of all internet searches take place through 3 search engines: Google, Yahoo, and MSN. The rest of them, especially if they’re pay for submission, are total garbage. Don’t waste your time.
