This is classic Philippines holidays…

Chinese New Year, which falls on Feb 10, 2024, is not a regular holiday.
It also falls on a Saturday.

What’s the difference between a special holiday and a regular holiday in the Philippines?

A regular holiday is a real holiday. Schools and banks are closed. Most workers get this day off work.
A special holiday is more like a school holiday. Everybody still has to go to work but the students get the day off to join the celebrations.

The Philippines celebrates Chinese New Year because they have a large Chinese population there. 1.5 million are ethnically Chinese, with many more of mixed Chinese descent.

It’s not a regular holiday, but many Filipinos observe the traditions because they’re supposed to bring wealth and good luck.

Usually, I wouldn’t be writing about this since it’s a special holiday that falls on a weekend.

But now, I have to write about it because the Philippine government just announced February 9 (Friday) as a special holiday, too. Yeah, that’s how they roll. Making up and changing holidays on a whim.

How might this affect your OFS? If they have kids, the special holiday means their kids will be home.

Best case scenario, it’s going to affect their productivity a bit.

Worst case scenario, they might not work.
