I’m in Croatia and have been riding bicycles with my family for almost 3 weeks so I’m late with this.
A big typhoon hit Southern Luzon in the Philippines. The name of the typhoon is Ewinniar (local name Aghon).

The local government in Quezon Province declared a state of emergency because of the storm’s strength and destructiveness. 36,000 people were affected, and there could be around 7 deaths. The storm caused so much flooding that it caused power outages, destroyed communication lines, disrupted the water supply, and destroyed homes and farmlands.
But as of the most recent update, most of those affected communities have their utilities back. Many people are going back to their homes to rebuild.

I know it’s scary every time we get news like this. And super sad.
If your OFS team is located in the Visayas or Mindanao, it’s unlikely they are affected. If your OFS team is in Metro Manila, it’s also unlikely that they’re affected because it is around 125 kilometers away.
I mentioned a few weeks back that the Philippines was going through a heat wave because of El Nino. Now that El Nino is over and La Nina has started, there will be stronger typhoons coming in.
You don’t have to worry much because most Filipinos are prepared for it. Each local government has a disaster response arm that coordinates with the national government. Once a disaster strikes, they mobilize a lot of people to get those affected to safety and get them what they need.
But if you have people in Quezon province, you may want to check in on them. Just to see if they’re okay and so they know that you care. They’ll appreciate knowing that you worry about them.

Ps. We ride our bikes every day. At the end of the day I plan the next day. Where we’ll stay, the route we’ll take, booking a place…
it’s a lot. I don’t have a laptop with me, just my phone. This is why I’m late sharing this news. I just haven’t done much work in the past 3 weeks.
We were in Croatia on Statehood Day (their Independence Day). My kids celebrated with them.
