So let me go back to the beginning for many of you new to this newsletter:
Why should I hire someone from the Philippines?
There are cheaper alternatives.
Depending on where you live, there might also be closer alternatives that are just as affordable.
Yes, there are alternatives. But decades later, the Philippines still stands out as the place to go if you want to outsource.
This shift from India started in about 2004.
Sure, you can hire anywhere in the world. India, Latin America, Africa, …. If you can find great talent and understand the culture, go for it!
But the reality is, most people have better “luck” in the Philippines.
Not everyone.
Most.
You just give yourself a better chance at success by hiring staff from the Philippines than…well than any other country. Yes, I said it.
But I also have a bunch of reasons why.
- Most Filipinos are inherently honest. Dishonest workers get the most attention, but they’re the exception, not the rule. If Filipinos were mostly dishonest, their BPO industry would have collapsed long ago.
- When you treat them well, they can be fiercely loyal. Insanely loyal.
- Most of the workforce are intelligent and college-educated. Within my team alone, almost all are college graduates, and some have postgraduate degrees.
- Many have a computer and good internet access at home.
- Their culture values hard work. They learn the value of hard work from a young age.
- They speak and understand American English. They consume a lot of American media, so they know our culture well.
- They (still) like America and Americans. This is different than most of the rest of the world.
- Finding a good job in the Philippines is difficult, so you have this enormous pool of amazing talent.
- OnlineJobs.ph makes it super easy to connect with the talent.
- They don’t want to steal your business. A steady job with you gives them a more reliable income.
- They don’t want to steal your data. The trouble they’ll get into when caught isn’t worth the effort.
These are why companies are still outsourcing to the Philippines compared to anywhere else.
