I have been getting an increasing number of emails about applicants using ChatGPT.
Yes, it’s everywhere.
Yes, it’s almost everyone.
Yes, it’s a problem, and it’s not limited to Onlinejobs.ph.
Employers worldwide are experiencing this, becoming frustrated with ChatGPT-generated resumes and answers to interview questions. You hire someone thinking that this person’s great because their answers are perfect, exactly what you’re looking for, only to find out this person has been using AI all along.
It doesn’t help that there are people and companies out there actively endorsing the use of AI when applying for jobs.

What we’re seeing right now is an artificial intelligence arms race. Employers are using AI to find the best workers, while applicants are using AI to tailor their profiles to be more attractive to employers. It’s no longer a question of whether or not someone is using AI. We have to assume that everyone is using AI. There’s no going back.
What we can do now, knowing that people are using AI, is to expect more from applicants. Artificial intelligence is a tool that amplifies what’s already there.
If a person is good, AI can make them better.
If they don’t have the skills and they suck, AI will make it worse.
Here’s what I do now with my hiring, knowing that applicants are using ChatGPT.
– I’m asking people to do a video selfie talking through a question I ask. ChatGPT can’t do this for you (yet).
– I ask them whether or not they used ChatGPT. I ask them to show me where and how they used ChatGPT. I want to know how honest they are.
– I ask for a test task. Paid. Something AI can’t do for them. If they don’t do it, I don’t ever talk to them again.
– I don’t look at applicants who used 1 AP on OnlineJobs.ph. I almost always ask for a specific number of AP. If they don’t use that specific number, I don’t look at them. That number I ask for is over 5. This means they have to be serious about applying to my job post because it’s likely the only one they can apply to that day.

That’s what I have so far. If you have suggestions, I’d love to hear them.

PS. This week we added an AI detection system to applications. If you’re on a Premium ($99) account, we’ll tell you how likely the application was written with AI. It’s not perfect, but we’ve done a lot of testing with it and it’s pretty accurate.
