After yesterday’s shocking discovery…
If you missed it, the subject was:
My shocking discovery with OFS: “I didn’t want to waste your time”?
Go back and read it.
…I posted a message to my team explaining what I had just learned and how I felt.
More of what I learned will be in future newsletters.
Today, here’s the big one:
A time tracker reinforces quantity over quality.
Think about it.
In a culture where efficiency is prioritized over doing it right, if you add a system that tracks their time, you’re screaming at them:
“I care a lot how much time you spend on each thing…so try to work faster. Time. Time. Time.”
Even though this isn’t your intention.
It reinforces their culture of “appear to work fast, don’t be perceived as lazy.”
It doesn’t say:
“It’s ok to take your time and do it right.”
or
“I want better work with fewer mistakes.”
If you’re interested in getting quality work done, ditch the time tracker.
