The Philippines is a mostly Catholic country, so a lot of its values can still appear very patriarchal.

But because many Filipino mothers leave the country to work abroad and because of modern values, many Filipino fathers are very involved in raising their children.

There’s even a research study about it published just this year. It shows more and more Filipino fathers are becoming their children’s primary caregivers, regardless of whether the mothers are there or not.

This isn’t surprising because when I talk to the fathers on my OFS team about their families, they do everything.

They clean the house.
They cook.
They feed their kids.
They take them to school.
They help them with their homework.
They do laundry.

I’ve talked about Ben, whose wife is an overseas worker. He does everything for his son.

I’ve also discussed Jam and how he drives his kid to school daily. When I first hired him, he wrote about what it was like to be a father who now works from home.

Of course, there’s Joven. He’s just awesome. He’s a great manager and a great dad, and he’s been doing this for years.

I have joyful emails and conversations with some of the guys from my dev team, telling me they’ll be having a baby. They’re excited about changing diapers and midnight feedings.

When asked why they do this, they would tell me they do it because they want to be good dads. They love doing this for their kids, and they’re glad that they have an online job because it gives them a chance to be the fathers they want to be.

It’s not just my team. A few years back, we featured someone who talked about how working online made him a better father and a better person.
